Litigation Support and Consulting (Non-testifying) Experts

Judges, parties, or their attorneys often retain non-testifying consulting experts to review evidence in the present or another legal proceeding. The consulting expert may review real estate valuation or other documentary evidence produced by other experts or parties. Tasks may include reviewing expert reports and exhibits to check for accuracies or for adherence to the Uniform Standards of Appraisal Practice or other standards of care.

Judges may engage consulting experts to assist the court by providing an unbiased interpretation of various real estate appraisal reports. After the deadline has passed for selecting an expert witness for trial, attorneys may retain a consulting expert to help navigate the intricacies of unforeseen real estate issues.
